Bulgaria is a small but charming country in Eastern Europe. And before thinking “why should someone even want to visit some unknown country at the end of the globe”, let me tell you that Bulgaria isn’t as bad as you think. Here we have breathtaking beaches, high and unbelievably beautiful mountains, totally stunning cultural and historical destinations, including 9 UNESCO sites.
You should also know that the country is very youngster-friendly destination. Here are our top 5 reasons to visit Bulgaria in your 20s.
1. Painfully Cheap
The chances are in your 20s you don’t have much money to spend. Recently the capital of Bulgaria – Sofia, was named as one of the cheapest cities in Europe for 2014 by European Backpacker Index. With hostels starting from 10 euros, meals for 5-10 euros a day and drinks and entertainment for around 4,5 euros Bulgaria definitely should be on your bucket list. For instance, you can get Shopska Salad for just 2-3 euro.
2. Never Stopping Nightlife
You’ll never get bored with the nightlife. Bulgaria has so much of it that you might have to schedule an extra day just to recover. Bulgarians party always and a lot and we have some really good tricks for fighting the hangovers, too. You’re young and adventurous so why don’t you stop by and have a drink here, heh? Streets are empty but the bars are full!
3. Spectacular Beaches
Bulgaria has a Black Sea coast and some 378 kilometers of spectacular beaches. Abandoned or crowded, rocky or sandy – whatever you prefer, this is your place.

There are many places in Bulgaria that will take your breath away! 7 Rila Lakes is a great place to start. We also have stunning mountains – the Balkan, RIla, Pirin, Rhodopes and many more.

I just came over to read this article via Maria who visited my blog today. Bulgaria looks fantastic and I have never considered going there before. I have Eastern Europe penciled in for next July so I am working out how I can fit this in! P.s. I’m not in my twenty’s but I’d suspect it is somewhere to visit at any age! 🙂
Hi Wendy, thanks for the comment! Sorry for the late response, I was in Europe for the last three weeks. Unfortunately I didn’t make it to Bulgaria, maybe next time! I did visit Budapest which was fantastic! Where are you visiting next July?
I have been contemplating visiting Bulgaria in the next few weeks but this really sealed the deal for me. I love the diversity that this post shows. Plus the 7 Rila lakes sounds pretty epic, can’t wait to check them out. Maria, I’m coming to visit you. Lust for the World, thanks for sharing!
