“We wander for distraction, but we travel for fulfilment.”
~ Hilaire Belloc
Playa Carrillo, Costa Rica
The third day we were in Playa Samara, we decided to grab some Imperial beer and Sangria and take a day trip to Playa Carrillo (a short bus ride away). Carrillo is unlike any beach I’ve ever been to, seeing that we had the entire beach to ourselves that day.
With very little businesses or residences near the area, Playa Carrillo can become your very own private paradise if you play your cards right. Nothing is more relaxing than having an entire beach to yourself, not to mention that once you have seen a sunset on Playa Carrillo, you will never forget it…
Once nightfall came, we heard loud music coming from down the road, so we ventured off the beaten path to explore. First, we came across a Quinceanera, the huge celebration in latin america for a girl’s 15th birthday party. Afterwards, we came across a local rodeo! Quickly noticing we were probably the only non Costa Ricans there, we grabbed some rice and beans and took a seat in the bleachers.
When has it paid off for you to go off the beaten path?
