In Brussels, everything is easy. It’s not a very big city, and the people are very quiet and warm.
– Eric-Emmanuel Schmitt
Only have one day in Brussels? No worries!
Although Brussels is the capital of Belgium and the capital of the entire E.U., it still has a small town feel. Most of the attractions are within walking distance and there is plenty you can see in just one day.
-Begin at GRAND PLACE-
Grand Place is the largest square in Brussels and the largest tourist destination. The cities Town Hall is located here, along with the Museum of the City of Brussels. If you visit in August, you may have a chance to see the enourmous “flower carpet”, which is set up in Grand Place every two years.
-Make your way to MANNEKIN PIS-
Mannekin Pis may be the most popular tourist destination in Brussels, which is hilarious when you realize what it is. Mannekin Pis is a statue of a little boy peeing, that stands about two feet tall. There are many stories about the little boy, all of which revolve around him peeing in order to save the city of Brussels during war.
-Hike up to PALAIS DE JUSTICE-
Palais de Justice is impressive by way of size and architecture, but the real reason to visit is the journey there. You can get the best view of the city from this area, as it overlooks all of Brussles.
-Indulge in a BELGIAN WAFFLE-
Belgian waffles are thick and endulgent, complete with a variety of toppings. You can grab one on the street, but good luck eating all of the toppings with the impossibly small fork they give you.
-Sling Back A Few BELGIAN BEERS-
A few steps from Grand Place, you can find a couple lively bars that offer outside seating and Belgium beer flights. I ended up at Au Brasseur, where the service was fast and the bar was packed with beer fanatics.
If you still have more time, there are plenty of museums and other sites to see in Brussels.
