When someone from Paris recommends a French restaurant, you know it’s going to be good.
La Cordonnerie is a cozy French restaurant on Rue Saint Roch with an amazing atmosphere. As you step in La Cordonnerie, you will feel like you are stepping into someones kitchen.
It is an old charming building with the original wooden fixtures and maybe ten tables (so make sure you have a reservation). I believe there was only two workers on a Friday night (one waiter and one chef, which you can see cooking in the open kitchen as you wait for the food). This is surprising because I found the service to be exceptional, even compared to restaurants with 10x the staff.
We started off with two appetizers:
1. Chevre Frais sur Coulis de Betterave (the special, which included goat cheese and some sort of beet root sauce)
2. and Assiette de Cochonnaille (charcutterie).
Our entrees were also the specials which were delicious:
1. Magrets de Cailles Sautes aux 2 Pommes (quail breast)
2. and Poelee de Coquilles St Jaque au Pastis (scallops).
I was thoroughly impressed which each dish. The chef really puts 100% into the flavors and presentation of the meal. I would recommend ordering the specials, which is usually what the chef finds fresh at the market daily . Don’t worry about the specials only being written in French on the menu, the staff will be happy to translate for you 🙂
And of course we had to order dessert, introducing “Banane flambee au Rhum” and “Mousse de Poires aux Framboises”:
The Banane flambee is lit on fire at the table and cooked in front of you. Since the Mousse de Poires aux Framboises was so light and airy, it was a perfect dessert to end our meal with.
After visiting La Cordonnerie, I decided to look it up online. It turns out that it is increasingly popular among travel and foodie websites such as Trip Advisor and Yelp. With reviews all at 5 stars, plenty of people are claiming it is their favorite restaurant in Paris (as I know it was mine too). What do you think?
