Walking into Golden Temple Villa is a relief from the dusty, hot streets of Siem Reap.
The place looks more like a secluded garden of worship than a budget friendly hotel (one of my friends actually asked if I was staying in a Temple after seeing the pictures). During your first 10 minutes at Golden Temple, you will be offered a free welcome drink while one of the staff members addresses you by name and explains the activities available in Siem Reap. At this point, you are also made aware of the free massage available to you that is included in the price of the room. What is the price of the room? A little under 20 dollars.
The restaurant at Golden Temple offers a colorful breezy oasis from the Cambodian heat. Try the iced tea and the banana leaf salad (I’m still trying to find banana leaves in the States to recreate this.. help anyone?) Oh yeah, and everything on the menu is around 2-3 dollars.
The hotel has it’s own driver, who is available to you at all times which is super convenient. Go watch the sunset at 5am at Angkor Wat, but I wouldn’t recommend seeing the floating village.
If all of this isn’t a reason to stay at Golden Villa, then the staff will surely be a decision influencer. The staff at Golden Villa were some of the most polite people I have ever encountered. I felt more catered to here than at a 5 star hotel. By the end of the week, the manager even offered to host us at his house on our next visit. Oh, and when you depart on your next adventure, you will leave with a parting gift from Golden Temple Villa.. mine was a nice Cambodian scarf 🙂
