Madrid is absolutely beautiful and ranks among my favorite cities in the World.
Compiling a list of the best day trips from Madrid wasn’t easy but we narrowed it down to three amazing medieval towns that lay just under two hours away.
1. Avila
1 hour and 21 minutes from Madrid
Most recognizable for: It’s large surrounding medieval style walls.
Known for: Having the highest number of Romanesque and Gothic Churches (and bars and restaurants) per capita in Spain.
2. Segovia
Most Recognizable for: The large aqueduct that lines it’s entrance.
Known For: The Alcazar of Segovia and the Segovia Cathedral
1 hour & 13 minutes from Madrid

El Bernardino in Segovia is famous for Spain’s “suckling pig” delicacy, a baby pig so tender that you can cut it open with a plate (not for the light hearted)
3. Toledo
Most Recognizable By: It’s location: A medieval castle dominates Toledo which is perched on a mountain top and surrounded by a moat like river.
Most Known For: The Alcazar de Toledo and the Toledo Cathedral
56 minutes from Madrid
