With so much rugged frontier to offer, there is no doubt that you will find some of the most stunning roads to travel in the USA.
So what are the best road trips in the USA? Here are the top five highways that make it hard to keep your eyes on the road…
1. Going-To-The-Sun-Road, Glacier MT
First let me say that I read about Going-To-The-Sun Road many times before my visit, and it still exceeded my expectations. This beautiful winding path clings onto the mountain side throughout the Montana Rockies, burrowing under rock tunnels and whisking over waterfalls.
Fact: It is the only road that crosses Glacier National Park in Montana, USA, going over the Continental Divide at Logan Pass.
Tip:Plan your drive in the summer or early fall. This is one of the most difficult roads in North America to snow plow, with the snow lasting throughout the Spring.
2. U.S. Route 101 or El Camino Real
US Route 101 allows you to drive the entire west coast of the United States in one stretch. Taking on this adventure is unlike anything you will ever experience. Unlike the east coast, most of the west coast still remains desolate and untouched. This sets the stage for amazing sunsets over the horizon, beaches you can have to yourself, and a beautiful winding road that has the habit of occasionally falling into the ocean.
3. The Overseas Highway
127 miles of of pavement separates the tip of florida from the last Florida Key. 127 miles of bridges and everlasting blue water that is. You’ll forget how long it takes you to get to Key West with a drive this enjoyable.
4. Beartooth Highway
The Northern entrance to Yellowstone National Park, Beartooth Highway, was named the most beautiful drive in America. On Beartooth Highway, you can cruise among some of the most daring landscapes for free.
5. Upper Trail Ridge Road
Ride along some of Colorado’s highest peaks on Upper Trail Ridge Road in Rocky Mountain National Park. Make sure to end your day by watching the sunset at Gore Range overlook.
What highways would you add to this list?
