Imagine ascending 1,900-meters up the side of a mountain, relying on a couple of wires to help you to the top.
Mount Stanserhorn is part of the glorious Alp mountain range that overlooks Lake Lucerne.
The trip to the top of Stanserhorn begins with an old wooden railway which gradually climbs across meadows where you can hear the sound of cowbells and see mountain goats grazing in the distance. Next, you will board the first open top cable car, The Cabrio. The Cabrio gives you an incredible 360° panoramic view as you breath in the fresh mountain air on your way to the top.
Tip: The funicular railway and cable car normally run daily from mid-April to mid-November. Mt. Rigi and Mt. Pilatus are also great choices if you are in Lake Lucerne, but are not open until mid-November if you are there in the fall.
Once at the summit of Stansorhorn, you will find a restaurant, a sun terrace and an observation deck. Here, you can relax and enjoy a drink as you take in the mountains. A round trip walk is available around the summit or to the peak at 1,898 metres. The summit allows for unimaginable views of the surrounding Alps and a whopping 10 lakes. On a clear day, you can also see as far as Alsace and the Black Forest in Germany.
I’ve been to more than 20 countries, and countless cities, but my photos at the top of Mount Stanserhorn at sunset are the most beautiful ones I have ever taken (in my opinion).
Where were your most beautiful photos taken?
